How To Work On Projects:

  1. The clients will list different projects on the website. Each project is put into a category that best suits the work that needs to be done.
  2. You’ll select a project to work on. Each project has a starting and ending date, plus a monetary payment value.
  3. Select the project and submit your entries to the customer.
  4. The customer has the final say-so when it comes to choosing the work.
  5. If a customer likes your design but would like a few changes, they’ll contact you directly.
  6. However, if a client is requesting more work from you than they have indicated on the job description, you can either accept the work or you can contact the site to report this problem. The site will work with you and the designer to rectify the problem.
  7. If your project has been selected by the client, you’ll be paid for the work.
  8. Afterward, the client is asked by the company to complete a survey about your work. The survey is simple and will only require the client to rate you. The rating system is a star rating of 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest score.
  9. Your rating will be added to your reputation on the site. Concerns About Crowdspring:

  1. Each job is a competition and the client views all the designs submitted. If your design wasn’t chosen, then you’re not paid for your time and efforts.
  2. Some clients seem to work with only a few designers which makes it hard to be selected for your work.
  3. Many people spend hours working on designs and never are compensated for their time or efforts.
  4. The company uses a star rating for your reputation on the site. If you’ve been working with this company for several years, you’ve established yourself. However, if you are new to the site, then it is hard to earn a rating on this site.
  5. Some clients will select your design and afterward ask for tons of modifications. Some of the modifications they request weren’t in the original job description. Furthermore, some of the modifications are above and beyond the work indicated in the job description. If you don’t make these corrections the client won’t accept or pay you for your work.
  6. This site is very difficult to be paid on. There is a lot of competition on the site and you’re competing with 205,000 other graphic designers for the same work. This can make it hard to be selected.
  7. This is one way to get your foot in the door as a graphic designer. Maybe one client will like the work you do and have you design other things for their company. This doesn’t happen often, but a company can look at the designs on the site and maybe they will select you to work with them.

This is a legitimate crowdsourcing site that pays you for your graphic design talents. The company processes payments three times a week and they pay on time. However, this site is very competitive and it is hard to win each contest. The owner or client that has created the contest will select the design that best suits their needs. This makes it difficult to enter the contest and earn money. Some clients will only select the designer who is well established on the site and has a high reputation rating. It is hard to get established and earn a rating. You could be working here for a month and never earn any money.

  1. CrowdSpring is a shady company that takes advantage of small businesses and freelancers alike. I’m shocked they’re still in business as the more I dig on the internet, the more bad stories I seem to find. Some may have a positive experience with the website but I wouldn’t risk it. I would avoid this service as much as possible.

  2. The time it takes to get paid now really sucks. Back in 2009 you never waited more than a week. And it’s true that they threaten to suspend you if you complain too often about late payments.

On the plus side there is only ever 1,000 artists working at any time across all project types. If you’re new to design or crowdsourcing sires it will take a while to win a contest. Some of it will have to do with skills and some with interpreting the brief. You get better with time and will start winning as you define your style and understand the types of designs that appeal to a budget conscious client. Surprisingly, really cool designs don’t often win because they can seem generic in a sense. Clients love personal touches.

It’s good extra money especially if you’re between jobs. Explains why most designers are from developing nations – US dollars convert well in many counties. If you get paid that is. My guess with the site is that the designer only gets paid when the client coughs up. Shouldn’t be that way but that’s my observation.

  3. I have worked at crowdspring, they are really disgusting and blackmailers. I agree with Larry they make you paid more than 40 days and if you tried to contact them they always make only one excuse that due to some serious issue payments getting delay. And what is the serious issue you never know. Also they will threat you that if you contact them again for payment issue then your payment will be hold. They are really big blackmailers. I quit working on crowdspring. 99Designs is best from every aspects.

  4. Crowdspring not pay my 1,025 award. And my account have deactivated now. Thanks for this professional website.

    1. This is a legitimate company and many people have been paid from this site. This amount of money seems very high for the amount of work that you can do on this site. It looks like there is some sort of error or you are not telling the entire story behind this one.

      1. For your information, $1,025 is not a large amount as there are projects on this site as there are even larger amounts being posted as awards. The amount stated by Indra is not biased, maybe you should have a look at all the projects posted on the site.
Crowdspring does have problems with their payment to their designers/creatives as they do not pay them on the time cycle they claim and delay the payment with additional of up to 60 days on top of the initial 30 days that they withheld the participant’s first payment award.
Maybe its time you do more research before stating they are a legit site as what they are practising is against what is stated in their own policy, which is a clear violation of their own policy in print. Please do note that the attitude of their customer service is probably one of the worst among all the crowdsourcing platforms.

    2. They definitely do have projects that appear once in a while around the $1025 mark. Payments these days are really late but I’ve been working on the site on and off for 12 years and have always been paid.

I’ve worked in 99 Designs and DesignCrowd and their clients literally never respond to submissions. Whereas crowdspring’s system seems to generate way more feedback. This is critical when working remotely like this.

I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.

  5. I working on Crowdspring and payments for designers are not 14 days, they have delay and now after client approval we need to wait more than 40 days for our money.
