Conclusion:
This is a legitimate company to work for and it has been in business since 2002. The company hires people worldwide, but some of the jobs are for India residence only. Like all companies, there is the good and the bad. Overall, people are happy working for this company because of the flexible hours and the type of work they do. However, it seems that everyone agrees that the pay per word is low and they feel the company isn’t competitive in their pay. If you are looking for an editing or proofreading job this is a good company to work for. You’ll need a college degree in order to apply for work. The company has several editing tests that you must pass before they will contact you for an interview. If you fail the tests the first time around, you can reapply again in 2 months.
Cactus pays around INR 125 for a page. Given the crappy Asian English that you have to edit, it will take you almost two hours to edit that single page. So, you will end up earning about $1 an hour. However, the fun will begin after the editing. Some shady guy who is working for $500 a month with no qualifications whatsoever to judge your work will give you a random 60% marks on the paper that you just made publishable!!!
It’s not because your work was poor or that she doesn’t like you. It’s because that’s her job. Her salary comes from giving you a low rating. You must be wondering. Well, this is how it works. If she gives you any rating above 75%, Cactus will have to pay you the full amount of INR 125. However, if she can keep you even a notch below that, you will get only 85% of the INR 125. So, if she wants to keep her job, she has to consistently give everyone a rating below 75%.
I don’t think any American or Canadian can work for them. $10 earnings in a day is just not enough. Even the most desperate people here can do better than that.
You know it’s a scam when you see a 5-star rating in a Glassdoor review of Cactus and 165 people saying they did not find the review useful. Or, when you find a poor 1-star rating and 335 people saying the review was most helpful.
